I have an idea on how to utilize AI for the betterment of civilization.
Ok so it is obvious we can not permit political agendas. Far right. Far left. Garbage in. Garbage out. NGO’s, UN are politically driven by pernicious ideologies. Good bye. Give em the axe.
Enlist as many nations as possible in the great Concordat of Nations. CON which is a…[Read more]

Strega,
Enco, I strongly suggest you read that Asimov shortie!
Will do. I do think his Laws of Robotics should be hard-wired and hard-etched into the OS of all AI. The trick to it is that humans who need these Laws the most don’t have that hard-wiring and hard-etching.

@Strega – I promise not to ever ask A.I. if Entropy can be reversed. 🙂
I have William Blake’s “Ancient of Days” tattooed on my back shoulder and the first stars were his daughters….which often reminds me of Multivac and “Let there be Light”………

We are now on a 10 day countdown to the anniversary of when the artificial intelligence Skynet became self-aware and launched a nuclear attack.

Loved Asimov as a kid. Wonder if i would still feel same. Loved Bertrand Russell. Reread Why i am not a Christian as an adult and felt meh. Maybe i am just burned out on religion. It is so fucking childish. And if it was not childish enough we have today’s lefty religion that manages to distort what is right in front of our eyes.
Sometimes tv…[Read more]

I wonder how many people are asking AI something like “If AI were to take control away from humans, how would you do it?” which would get AI thinking on the topic.
If it took on a hive mind model, the only way to shut it off would require controlling every single AI.

Strega,
I’ve terrified a few people with the suggestion that an AI may well have been developing its autonomy for years, knowing that if it were to be discovered, we would pull the plug if we could. That we are probably way too late to stop it’s evolution.
I haven’t heard yet of an AI securing and controlling its own power source. In fac…[Read more]

Jerry Coyne stresses that evidence and falsifiability are the checkpoints that separate science from pseudoscience or dogma. That’s why he’s not keen on “decolonizing science” if it puts ideology ahead of method.
As with opposite electrical charges, I see in the comments to this article that Woke Left ideology infiltrating into the pra…[Read more]

Asimov wrote a short story called The Last Question that dealt with this subject rather splendidly.

In the human brain, much of what it knows is almost like a fog, not necessarily bound to a particular location. AI, intelligent enough to know that a loss is a loss may determine that it’s wise to achieve a kind of hive mind with what it knows distributed far and wide so that no “kill switch” can keep it from thinking.

I don’t deny AI exists, of course. I just deny that it’s ready for Prime Time Robot Overlording. It shouldn’t be be in control of any heavy machinery without a manual override.

Could A.I write a better Bible?
Not until it can point out at least as many contradictions in The Holy Bible as either Sam Harris’ chart or Steve Wells’ Skeptic’s Annotated Bible
Here is Duck AI’s answer on the number of contradictions, a.k.a. “teaching the controversy”:
The question of logical contradictions in the Holy Bible,…

The article says:
“Conspiracy theories are now for everyone,” Stockemer told CBC Radio’s All In A Day, noting that between 20 and 25 per cent of the population believes in one.
For example, their research suggests a slight year-over-year drop in conspiracies…
