Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoOh, and as an aside i lost respect for Mark Cuban’s intelligence when he endorsed Trump. I don’t think it was at all ideologically driven even if he thought he’d be better for economy.

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoReg, i took your question as satire cuz the electorate would as a whole have eyes glass over with that question and any intelligent answer would be similarly greeted with glassy eyes.
As to why any articulate and intelligent person can be for Trump? Easy, it is same as religion, a dichotomy. We are as a species so subject to ideology and it…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoIt’s a form of love, hero worship and a sense of belonging. It’s not a comparison of policies between candidates. Trump built this with the MAGA movement.
This is why the sorts of things that might make them reconsider, are emotionally based. His crowd is too small. He’s losing his marbles. And finally, he’s boring. He has nothing new to say t…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoI just cannot see how a person articulate and intelligent enough to ask such a question cannot decide the pros and cons of voting for Trump or Harris.

OK, tell me why we should not? We’re all a self-generating source of flourishing and meaning. The need to flourish generates goals; goals generate meaning. Without goals, we just languish, which is what happened to a lot of people in the pandemic.

I also find a lot of ethical truth in Sartre’s existentialism.I like the way the French do things, and probably Freud also contributed to their philosophies. Not everything is amenable to machine-like analysis of minutiae. Sometimes you need broad human strokes.

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoIn the end, we can always commit suicide.
Whenever someone in a group setting asks about the purpose of life I always consider suggesting that we should all go outside now and commit suicide. Depending on the maturity of the company of course. When I get told “that is a horrible thing to suggest”, I ask, OK, tell me why we should not?

Funny thing is i saw firsthand that his base believes every single ridiculous lie. I guess that is consistent with his being a cult leader. Nodody is home. It’s the human comedy and the march of folly so kick back with popcorn to get your jollies.

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoI doubt today’s analytical philosophers are so rigid as if they walk around thinking like Spock or something.
Maybe they would confuse Spock by asking him what he means exactly by the term “live long” and if he could outline his definition of “prosper” in terms of the cultural differences between them and the Klingons?

Sunday School 1 year, 10 months agoWhile I regard myself as a linguistic philosopher (and am thus more closely allied to the Northern/British analysts), I also find a lot of ethical truth in Sartre’s existentialism.
