@Tom – please show me where I suggested that “debunk” required only my opinion and I will hold my hands up. I doubt if I would consider my subjective opinion as a valid reason to negate an hypothesis. I did not debunk EU, I just supplied arguments based upon what I know of Physics which appeared to undermine many of its arguments. You never…[Read more]

@Tom – Can you at least point out what post of mine needs debunking. I don’t want or expect any quarter given to anything I post. There are plenty of people here to debunk it and I can handle that without needing a safe space 🙂

@Tom, do you accept Einstein’s special and relative theories as accurate explanations for the speed of light and for the force of gravity being explained by the curvature of spacetime?

@Tom, yes I agree but I don’t think there is any need for an ad hominem attack on poor pond scum by comparing them to our politicians. Even though they are genetically related to politicians they must feel very dirty when they are reminded of that.

Yeah, well, if a short duck and dodge is the best way to make broad criticisms of something you don’t like and avoid defending it, then a short duck and dodge is the most successful!

@Tom, I told them the answer was 42 but they did not even know what the question was.

@Tom, I agree. A problem many people have, including some atheists, is thinking that atheism is the opposite of religion or that atheism should offer a replacement to religion.
Getting rid of religion is a reward in itself. No replacement needed. Oh poor me, I ditched my religion and now all that is on offer is reality.

@tom – I don’t think it’s possible to make such a fine value judgement of the outcome. At most, we can only describe the situation as it is. It’s good that in the long term, slavery was abolished. It’s regrettable that this came at the cost of 750,000 lives. Each loss is regrettable. Was each loss necessary? That’s probably something we ca…[Read more]

– you didn’t give any reasons why I was wrong.

@tom – I don’t see why not. It’s the kind of thing atheists are interested in. Also, “anything goes”.

I have to say I do enjoy reading @Tom Sarbeck’s posts – if you’ve got the time, Tom, I’d love to hear more about your assertion that the universe didn’t start with a ‘big bang’.

@mcc1789 – “It just ultimately boils down to being God’s opinions, which makes it subjective A few have admitted this, saying he could even make something forbidden or permitted at will.”
– he could, but he clearly doesn’t, so I think this argument is a non-starter. What’s more, whatever God does is “good” anyway, so it doesn’t matter if it’s un…[Read more]

@mcc1789 – if “objective morality” is that which is based on facts, or a response to facts, then can you name a situation where morality is not objective?
@tom sarbeck – ““dead” is metaphor. What say you to the hypothesis that every word in a language is metaphor?”
– I don’t think that words and metaphors are the same. A metaphor is when one…[Read more]

@tom sarbeck – “Any fact can be understood or interpreted, differently by different people. it can also be understood or interpreted differently by any one person at different times.”
– yes, but an actual physical thing or situation can only actually be itself, and not simultaneously something different, at any one time. What we choose to make…[Read more]
