Sunday School 3 weeks, 3 days agoIn college a history professor challenged the class to identify an atheist who was kicking around 1700. He was more than a little surprised when i raised hand and told him about Meslier. Had read about him in one of Will and Ariel Durant’s books.
Ya know it just goes to show ya we are not created equal. Far from it. As much as i drone on in…[Read more]

Sunday School 3 weeks, 3 days agoI had heard of ‘wooly buggers’ before, up near Helen, in northern GA. Is it a Southern term? I often walk along the banks of the Chattahoochee and see fishermen there too. Never heard the term in Ireland in relation to fly-fishing for trout. Not my scene but big with some locals and tourists.
Anyway….I hope Loomer gets herself further…[Read more]

Religion is substantively substanceless and its subsistence saturates substantial pockets of stupidity that leak into and support woo and ideology. What else does one need to know except how religion still has a hold over so many? So how the fuck are idiots gonna figure out Magma and Palestinianism are lying to us?

Religion explained the unknown while the unknown was vast. Neuroscience explains why those explanations felt true. As our understanding of the mind grows, revelation is asked to compete not with disbelief, but with explanation.
Hypatia of Alexandria might have said……”If the soul’s visions admit of natural explanation, then let us investigate…[Read more]

Religion does not conquer ignorance; it gives ignorance a vocabulary. It survives and coexists with ignorance because it explains ignorance cheaply.
Religion presents itself as ancient, armored, and metaphysically grand, but its vulnerability is embarrassingly biological. It depends on ordinary human cognition: agency detection, pattern hunger,…[Read more]

I don’t know how you got impression others are not worried or bothered by the Maggot trajectory.
I was singularly unimpressed by Scaramucci. Ethnic NY Italian section is really cool. But in terms of offering a reasoned basis for optimism in ANYTHING he said. No siree. Sir nope. Great Depression. Civil War. Ok. So what? Challenges are so…[Read more]

Politics 4 weeks agoI’ve been expecting American politics and authoritarinist success to keep getting worse, and they have. I don’t get why others here don’t seem to be as worried or bothered by it. So I hope it’s because I’m wrong. In any case, I ran into a more optimistic view that includes a more optimistic prediction, and it reminds me that we’ve survived similar…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 weeks agoThat Abby video critiquing her performance on Rogan is hilarious. She is such an incredibly transparent liar. Funniest part is around 4.15 in which Abby has to look down to conjure vagina.
