Codependency is a type of dysfunctional helping relationship where one person supports or enables another person’s drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling addiction, poor mental health, immaturity, irresponsibility, or under-achievement.

I’m probably way too cynical, as I’ve sat on the boards of several different financial institutions and been immersed in what I’d casually call corporate skullduggery today. Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft between them control a huge proportion of what our internet interactions have become. In some ways, the US government withdrawing Net Ne…[Read more]

Wow, David, where to start!? I’m contemplating a list the length of my arm to see what wins my ‘stupid Olympics’ challenge.
How about ‘Trump will never win the presidency’
I’m not about to explain this one, but it’s probably on several of my immediate list items…

@belen Belle, I see this as a tool for self improvement, which I am always looking for as I am a continuous work-in-progress. When @toms first mentioned it, I did not realize that it was a depiction of co-dependency. That’s not to say that every time someone says, ‘Why don’t you’ and offers a solution that this is wrong, nor that every time s…[Read more]

It is unchecked capitalism. It goes by the one golden rule – Don’t get caught. Why would you think Google could be different?

First, chomsky is not a philosopher. He is a linguist who dabbles in political theory and very basic philosophical discourse. I agree with his general world view, and I sympathise with him. He lives in the only developed first world Country that is extremely hostile towards social spending, universal health care, financial regulation and c…[Read more]

David, you are depicting Google as successful capitalists. That’s what capitalists do.
How are atheists infringed on specifically as a result? It sounds to me as if you’ve just had a negative run-in with YouTube and you’re lashing out. Have you?

I’m a constant work-in-progress, Tom. You wouldn’t believe the hothead I was in my youth. Any more of such useful concepts you’d care to share would be received with gratitude 🙂

So thanks to @toms I’ve taken a much closer look at my own participation in codependency- and found some surprising similarities in how I interact with the people I care about. Surprised, but not impressed, I’m attempting to change my response structure, with somewhat astonishing beneficial results.
Example :- Close friend took about ten minut…[Read more]

If I’d have had enough money, I’d have been bribing Fox News to say whatever I wanted the president to believe. I’d be astonished if nobody has made this effort. We are all on a bus headed somewhere we don’t want to go, but we cannot get off until the next stop. That’s November when the American people get to change the face of congress if…[Read more]

On the other hand, if you read The Selfish Gene, you will understand how our genes have their own plans for us
Is replacing “purpose” with “plans” really an improvement? Is referring to genes as an aspirational and driven force any better? It’s just replicating code.

There is no purpose to life. We are a sack of cells which are obsessively and endlessly replicating their particular “code”. Anything more than that…is secondary…besides the point (including the emergence of emotional creatures, cooperative animals and intelligent mankind). I think you should be extremely careful with the term “purpose”…[Read more]

They gave me an ‘amnesiac’ for the colonoscopy which seems to be a ‘must do’ for the population here. I called it a date rape. I’m pretty glad I don’t remember any of it, despite the doctor mailing me some weird photos of a place where the sun don’t shine. Then he called me to tell me everything was fine and asked if I liked the photos.…[Read more]
