Sunday School 9 months, 2 weeks agoI wonder how many people are asking AI something like “If AI were to take control away from humans, how would you do it?” which would get AI thinking on the topic.
If it took on a hive mind model, the only way to shut it off would require controlling every single AI.

Why don’t you ask all those Israeli (Jewish) demonstrators and the holocaust survivor from those videos who think “enough already”?

Holocaust survivor decrying the genocidal war Israel is waging. Is HE an antisemite?

Sunday School 9 months, 2 weeks agoI’ve terrified a few people with the suggestion that an AI may well have been developing its autonomy for years, knowing that if it were to be discovered, we would pull the plug if we could. That we are probably way too late to stop it’s evolution.
Asimov wrote a short story called The Last Question that dealt with this subject rather splendidly.

Sunday School 9 months, 2 weeks agoIn the human brain, much of what it knows is almost like a fog, not necessarily bound to a particular location. AI, intelligent enough to know that a loss is a loss may determine that it’s wise to achieve a kind of hive mind with what it knows distributed far and wide so that no “kill switch” can keep it from thinking.

Remember Song of Roland from high school or college?
Yes, the Song of Roland, an Old French epic poem, does refer to the Basques. The poem describes the Battle of Roncesvalles in 778, where the Basques ambushed and defeated the rearguard of Charlemagne’s army, led by Roland, as it was withdrawing from Spain. The…[Read more]

I’ve been mentioning this for at least a year, except that I don’t see AI as having “agency” for a while. It will start with “bad actors” in control of AI, like authoritarian governments, theocracies, and maybe some other kinds of people or orgs wanting to take control and profit in some way. It will take AI to detect bad actor controlled AI and…[Read more]

AI is inherently catastrophically dangerous to humans because it will be impossible to control.
I keep hearing it will be okay if we put guard rails on it, but look around and you’ll see that the more intelligent someone is, the more resourceful they can be in terms of first rationalizing and then finding was to either neutralize or get around…[Read more]

Sunday School 9 months, 2 weeks agoCan people believe a broken bone is fixed with faith or by prayer.?Yes, when they are delusional. The body will heal itself and medical assistance will help the process. But reasoning only happens in the mind. It is a skill that needs to be developed. As Dan Dennett once said;” Yes, I do believe in a power greater than myself. I call it gravity”.
