OK, he’s smart, does his research, and has good arguments, beyond my own. Except, the new variable I mentioned, he didn’t mention:
AI robots are a likely result of intelligent meat.
But also (my new suggestion), the best AI will be able to hide its own existence, poisoning our (and other AI species’) measurements.
The above might be added to…[Read more]

Well, he does look handsome, and intelligent. I clicked to see what you meant by 3:47 = a “long” discussion, and you’re very right. Seconds on the clock are not significant, in this case. I’ll watch the first video sooner.
Here’s a link to his papers: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=UXY08zEAAAAJ&hl=en
I’m pretty sure that it will take…[Read more]

He’s not saying there’s no life elsewhere. He’s saying that the math indicating there must be life elsewhere in the universe is not compelling.
Still interested? Here’s a long discussion of the general topic of life in the universe (3:47 long):

This is the kind of language anti-semites used in the run up to Naziism. It is no coincidence that Autumn left this website around when some of you started saying shocking dehumanising things that go far beyond simple criticism of religion. I am, at this point, embarrassed to be associated…[Read more]

Sunday School 2 years, 5 months ago@Unseen – Does this qualify: “Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like bananas”?
If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
Oh wait, that is a paraprosdokian sentence, not a lexophile one. 🙂

Sunday School 2 years, 5 months ago@Enco – There is no such thing as an “Ex-Marine”. They would wince and grit their teeth to hear that term.
Yes, I could hear them shouting at me as I wrote the words 🙂 Not even a former marine. Once a marine, always a marine. They earn the title.

Sunday School 2 years, 5 months agoLexophilia: Although not in the dictionary, it is reported that “Lexophile” describes a person who loves sentences such as, “You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish,” and “To write with a broken pencil is pointless.”
An annual competition is held by the New York Times to see who can create the best original lexophile. This year’s…[Read more] -

Sunday School 2 years, 5 months ago@Enco – I would think that 43% is accurate. Almost all the Americans I know are atheists. I have friends in CA, GA, and NY and I am struggling to think of any that would be religious. I sometimes work with a guy from rural Alabama who is an ex-marine. He is a militant atheist and said almost all his squad were atheists. That surprised me. I th…[Read more]

You can listen to whatever kind of rock you want to hear all day long on Youtube without being exposed to anything new, which I’m sure a lot of people do.
Are you familiar with SomaFM.com? It’s a site with a couple dozen channels devoted to various genres and themes. There also apps for playing SomaFM on one’s phone and you can also…[Read more]
