Sunday School 2 years, 3 months agoA few years back, in Atlanta, GA, I was talking with a couple I had just been introduced to about the foods we might have on our running or hiking days. I was telling them that I put beets, a banana, some spinach and half an apple with a dash of fresh orange juice and ginger into a blender. I don’t really need it in order to be active but it is p…[Read more]

Sunday School 2 years, 3 months agoWhenever I go on a date I often ask her if she is happy for me to pay. Almost always it’s “Let’s go Dutch”. Once, in a higher end restaurant, I heard the words “I will get it this time and you can pay the next time” and delivered with a smile. Great, I will even get a few extra sachets of ketchup so, I replied, returning the smile.

Sunday School 2 years, 3 months agoWhen it comes to being civil and polite, I treat all people equally unless they have given me a reason not to do so. I will hold a door open for any person. 99% of the time a thanks or a smile is offered in return. The times neither is forthcoming are of no concern to me. Good manners cost nothing.

Sunday School 2 years, 3 months agoI like Camille Paglia.
I would have some respect for her academic work. However when Sinead O’Connor tore up the picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live in the early 1990’s she commented that the abuse O’Connor suffered was justified. Very weird for a feminist and professed atheist to side with the Catholic Church.

Sunday School 2 years, 3 months agoNever took stock from Rape of a Lock.
There is an old tradition in Ireland of never accepting a lock of hair from your lover (even if she is called Arabella).
I have long contended that religion is the source of most of the sexual dysfunction in the world. None of them hold that women should be treated the same way as men. The Old Testament…[Read more]

Sunday School 2 years, 3 months ago“What can I do to think more skeptically?”
Adopt some basic principles of critical thinking:
Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence. This principle was proposed by David Hume and popularized by Carl Sagan. We probably wouldn’t request evidence if someone boasts of having a 2020 penny in their pocket—but we likely would if they c…[Read more]

@unapologetic – Unfortunately FSM is not a recognized religion in the USA. However there is nothing wrong with dressing up in a pirate custom and playing “God hates us all” (released just before 9/11) on your headphones (or not) while scoffing a plate of tasty Ramen. I am ordained Minister with several years experience of engaging in Spaghetti…[Read more]

Sunday School 2 years, 4 months agoif we accept that human males cooperate to dominate and control females..
I don’t. I know most religious societies do to a greater or lesser extent and that is one of the reasons why religions persist.

Apparently, the main thrust of questions had to do with whether a semiautomatic assault-style rifle with a bump stock modification qualified as a machine gun under laws written back when machine guns were “tommy guns”.
Yes, that is what it is mostly about. SCOTUS will also consider if the AFT have the power to regulate gun accessories, like bu…[Read more]
