Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoOne of the best answers is “I don’t know”.
It can be a good answer. It is better than pretending to have certainty. But humans prefer to have an answer, even if it is the wrong answer. It is like the post during the week about not wanting to think. Many no longer seem to possess any ability to do so and apart from their basic executive funct…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoHave a great week everyone!
The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it. It is not disbelief that is dangerous to our society; it is belief.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI ask theists ‘stupid questions’, like my shoe question above, so that they will have to focus on the other questions I have asked about the 72 virgins. I find such distracting questions can start a ‘Socratic Method’ conversation as the theist is compelled to explain what I am really asking him about, in order to show me the irrelevance of my shoe…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI have often asked Muslims how the “72 Virgins” deal works. Do they keep getting reborn as virgins every time you “visit with them”. If not and they grow old can you get new ones every 100 years or something like that or does Allah insist you remaining faithful to your own 72 forever. Do you have to go shopping with them afterwards to hold the…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI will stand corrected on any or all of the following as it mostly just my opinion.
Jewish people tend to be liberal in their attitudes (liberal in the sense Strega used it – not Orthodox) and are progressives on the core issues of civil rights for all citizens, more open to immigration and strongly support the separation of Church and State.…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI have friends recently back from Jerusalem who described the situation with Bibi in similar terms .
Our zoom meetings can be super bizarre with sirens and such going on.
I speak with a friend in Ukraine and it is not unusual to cut the call when we hear Iranian drones overhead. A sound that will never be forgotten.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoRyan Routh had spent time in Ukraine and I had wondered why he had not thought to use a drone, giving the volume of drones used in the war against Russia. My friend in Ukraine said the same to me the following day.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoOh my god who names their kid Brain Cox.
He can blame his parents, Dick and Suki, for that. I wonder if nominative determinism was at play when they were named.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoIn the end, we can always commit suicide.
Whenever someone in a group setting asks about the purpose of life I always consider suggesting that we should all go outside now and commit suicide. Depending on the maturity of the company of course. When I get told “that is a horrible thing to suggest”, I ask, OK, tell me why we should not?

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI doubt today’s analytical philosophers are so rigid as if they walk around thinking like Spock or something.
Maybe they would confuse Spock by asking him what he means exactly by the term “live long” and if he could outline his definition of “prosper” in terms of the cultural differences between them and the Klingons?
Captain, its the Engines h…[Read more]
