Atheist Cats 8 years, 7 months ago@unseen Some wild cats purr too. Apparently, the cats that purr can’t roar, and those that can roar can’t purr. The purring is currently being studied as potentially a healing activity. The idea is that the frequency helps bones and cuts to heal much faster!

Atheist Cats 8 years, 7 months agoThanks, that is really interesting. It does seem like “attachment” is probably the main function.

Maybe this is it. The mummy cat and the kitten purr to each other to show that they are happy and feeling good. Therefore, the reason for purring is bonding between mot…[Read more]

Atheist Cats 8 years, 7 months agoOn October 23rd I finally overcame my cowardice and got another rescue cat (why do they always die too soon?). OMG! This one is a pistol, a snowball with pink ears, a dive-bomber and toe-biter, only one year old and guilty of terminal cuteness. Already I am fearing the loss of this beautiful creature who, unaccountably, seems to love me a whole…[Read more]

That’s so sweet, Private! I think that cats are usually fairly indestructible, because they’re mostly mongrels. My mum just had a little long-haired white cat move in, she just came in lost out of nowhere, and for the first year she was there, she was the happiest cat you’ve ever seen. Apparently she has Maine Coon because she is very friendly…[Read more]

Science — the kind that requires evidence and reason. 8 years, 7 months agoI think in a past life I was once a ladies field hockey pitch on a wet Sunday, on finals day. It was also the death of me. At least I really hope so.

”I didn’t turn up to the meeting because I was reviewing my calendar in my head from a past life”
”I thought I’d paid you back, but it must have been in a past life”
“No, officer, I think you’re mixing me up with someone from a past life of yours”
I will try it out and keep you posted!

I watched some early morning TV recently and tuned into an episode of “The Doctors”. I did not know much about the show having only ever seen it in parts before then. I was not really paying much heed to it until I heard them say that “coming up next” there will be a segment on the merits of “past life regression” as a form of therapy. Goo…[Read more]

Science — the kind that requires evidence and reason. 8 years, 8 months ago@davis In Fiji, at the tribe gatherings the men speak and the women are not permitted to address the meeting, other than by whispering into their husbands ear and having him speak. Sometimes the men do not convey their woman’s words. If this happens, the woman starts to sing. Men are not permitted to speak whilst a woman is singing. Som…[Read more]

Why do humans have their particular social norms regarding sexuality and gender?
- monogamy
- control and dominance of females by males at a cultural and societal level, and double-standards between male and female norms
- widespread prohibition on (especially male) homosexuality
Human sexual behaviour differs from…[Read more]
