The thought of Karma is pleasing as it ensures the baddies lose, even if it happens years hence. Believing in Karma is harmless – it’s a way of putting rose tinted glasses on when you perceive annoying stuff. (It’s also a way of expressing selfish satisfaction over another’s misfortune, without having to be perceived as ‘mean’!). To all inte…[Read more]

The report that you considered liking or not liking what happens to your dead body after you are dead, is indicative of the vague assumption that you won’t actually die. You will.
What happens to our earthly remains after we are dead, is really more about those who survive us and grieve when we are dead. If your family want a location set, so th…[Read more]

I’d say it was either lifted from a Deepak Chopra blurb or from a Chinese fortune cookie.

I once had a magnificent chat with Arch on this subject. We both had near death experiences, in cars that were definitely going to crash, followed by the actual crash. Obviously we both survived them. The common denominator was a feeling of complete calm and total acceptance, coupled with a mild curiosity as to what would happen to each of us…[Read more]

Update. So, @danielw I’ve downloaded Headspace and done Day 1 of the session. I didn’t know it was going to be an English accented voice directing me – living here in the states, I miss English accents and it made it so much easier for me to want to listen. And I actually achieved following the directions and messing with my concentration – much…[Read more]

Genie:- ok, what’s your third wish?
Dude:- wait what happened to my three wishes? Surely it’s three wishes, it’s always three wishes.
Genie:- you had your first wish, then you screamed, then your second wish was to completely forget everything that happened for your first wish. So here we are. Third wish?
Dude:- I want to know what goes on…[Read more]

I have to say I will buy a chocolate crucifix again this year. They startled the life out of me the first time I saw one – now I take great delight in sending one to anyone I know who loves chocolate – just one and just once a year. This year it will be going to Cologne, in Germany.

Sunday School 8 years, 2 months agoRe atheists being more moral link, I felt a surge of delight that my Brits over the ocean feel this way. However, I was also delighted to read the replies to that article, specifically a rebuttal to the ‘atheists are to blame for everything’. The rebuttal was made by a guy called Robert – magnificent!

I also read about the benefits of meditation – however, I get stuck and impatient with the ’empty your mind’ direction. @danielw are you saying there are apps and things that make this mind-emptying thing easier? Or even obsolete? I’d be very interested in what you’ve found.

For you, perhaps, but not for the meaning of the term ‘codependency’. That is not ambiguous. It is a category under which I would file the WDYYB behaviour.
When one is in a codependent relationship, one exhibits some, not all of the codependent behaviors. In order to effect self change with a view to self improvement, I cannot be defensive…[Read more]

Codependency is a type of dysfunctional helping relationship where one person supports or enables another person’s drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling addiction, poor mental health, immaturity, irresponsibility, or under-achievement.

I’m probably way too cynical, as I’ve sat on the boards of several different financial institutions and been immersed in what I’d casually call corporate skullduggery today. Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft between them control a huge proportion of what our internet interactions have become. In some ways, the US government withdrawing Net Ne…[Read more]
