Next thing you know, the French-Yakuza mafia will be appropriating ancient traditional British chicken byriani!

Always with the ad hominems.
You don’t seen to understand what ad hominems are. I highly recommend familiarising yourself with fallacies before quoting them.
Nor do you seem to understand insults. Telling someone they are being ridiculous is not an insult. Calling them a fucking idiot is (which I have not done). When someone is obsessed with an…[Read more]

toxic behaviour doesn’t get anyone anywhere
…and yet Simon, you don’t seem to realise that overgeneralising about people, obsessively going on about cancel culture and “leftist bullying” and other moral panics is toxic.

Cancel culture is authoritarian
Ugh…again you have responded to Autumn’s well thought out reply with babble. “Cancel culture” is a label applied to people who don’t like being called out for bullshit that they have gotten away with for too long. Yes, sometimes people face an overly harsh backlash to things that may not even have been meant as…[Read more]

You don’t know what someone is going to say until they say it.
Yes Unseen, that is tautologically true. That still doesn’t convince me that inviting someone whose expertise on a topic is as menial as yours or mine is, at an ACADEMIC event makes any bloody sense.
but over time people’s views can change or be more nuanced than you’ve been led to be…

But are you denying that the Left has an authoritarian element?
Simon, your overgeneralisations are getting bloody tedious.

The reason to host a speaker outside the context of a course has to be because they are of interest to the audience. That the speaker’s views are not of interest to the organizers should be irrelevant. That the speaker is being banned because the hosts disagree with them is among the worst reasons not to provide a forum for them. Particularly t…

Indeed Enco, I had meant to address it to Simon as Simon was mentioning trigger warnings. If you had read the whole thread, you would have seen multiple posts about it. I don’t see how you could have possibly missed it.

The woke Left has a recent history of authoritarianism.
That is such an obnoxious overgeneralisation Simon. Groan

Simon, if you had a daughter or son who had been recently raped and was in schooling (at any level), you would appreciate it if their teacher or professor took a total of 5-10 seconds out of the class to let any student know what was coming, especially if say, reading a chapter from a book that involved rape would potentially harm their recovery…[Read more]

Part of Peterson’s platform is his “how to live your life”. Some of it is just repackaged stuff the stoics said, some of it is messed up…not a single part of it is original or profound yet it sells. People live by that advice. What I find really really really, but I mean really fucked up…is that people still look up to him as a model of a…[Read more]

Simon you have such a man crush on Peterson you are willing to dismiss vile behaviour you would rightfully call out as vile if someone else did it. Ugh.

Most European cities have exceptionally good, clean, cheap and frequent public transportation (there are obvious exceptions I know). I do not miss the very high cost, frequent maintenance, grief or stress of driving. It would be a nightmare having a car in the city centre anyways. I can very easily used a shared car the rare times I ever need one.

That’s a total bummer unseen. I hope you have your mobile handy with you!
I guess Simon, you won’t bang on a moving bus ever again! I would imagine the bus company didn’t give a toss about your complaint?

That’s a bummer Unseen. I guess you’ll have to pee sitting down for a while. My fingers are double crossed that your knees will be back to normal soon.
Simon, I think busses almost always win 😉
