Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoRegarding the Dawkins article…
It is wrong to think, as many people seem to do, that we humans are the pinnacle of humankind, that lions and tigers are the pinnacle of cathood, that the evolutionary process is complete now.
In fact, here’s how evolution works: when a trait helps a creature adapt, it tends to become incorporated; when it…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoYes, I have helped some to de-convert themselves. These would be mostly ‘cultural Muslims’ whose parents were immigrants to Ireland. I guess many were halfway out the door and just needed to be able to reason themselves the rest of the way. There seems to be a brain fog zone where we know something is not true but can’t quite put our finger on…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoOne of the best answers is “I don’t know”.
It can be a good answer. It is better than pretending to have certainty. But humans prefer to have an answer, even if it is the wrong answer. It is like the post during the week about not wanting to think. Many no longer seem to possess any ability to do so and apart from their basic executive funct…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoHave a great week everyone!
The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it. It is not disbelief that is dangerous to our society; it is belief.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoAnother Texas pastor reminds us of the bigotry of many Christian leaders.
Court won’t allow public money to be spent on private schools in South Carolina.
Iowa Religious Freedom Restoration Act used for the first time in court.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI ask theists ‘stupid questions’, like my shoe question above, so that they will have to focus on the other questions I have asked about the 72 virgins. I find such distracting questions can start a ‘Socratic Method’ conversation as the theist is compelled to explain what I am really asking him about, in order to show me the irrelevance of my shoe…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoWhat’s the big deal with virgins? Are they supposed to be better in bed?
That hasn’t been my experience.
Or is it that an inexperienced girl won’t recognize the inexperience of their partner?

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI have often asked Muslims how the “72 Virgins” deal works. Do they keep getting reborn as virgins every time you “visit with them”. If not and they grow old can you get new ones every 100 years or something like that or does Allah insist you remaining faithful to your own 72 forever. Do you have to go shopping with them afterwards to hold the…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI will stand corrected on any or all of the following as it mostly just my opinion.
Jewish people tend to be liberal in their attitudes (liberal in the sense Strega used it – not Orthodox) and are progressives on the core issues of civil rights for all citizens, more open to immigration and strongly support the separation of Church and State.…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI think that ultimately Israel will have to decide what to do when the Muslim population exceeds the Jewish population. How, then, to remain a Jewish state? Expel Muslims? Exterminate Muslims? Disenfranchise Muslims? Is there a Plan D?

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoI have friends recently back from Jerusalem who described the situation with Bibi in similar terms .
Our zoom meetings can be super bizarre with sirens and such going on.
I speak with a friend in Ukraine and it is not unusual to cut the call when we hear Iranian drones overhead. A sound that will never be forgotten.

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoThe pager/cell phone attack probably qualifies under most definitions of international terror because there was never any guarantee that only Hamas members would receive them or always be the ones in possession of them or that innocent civilians would not be killed or maimed.

I always say in comments that Pau is the beating heart of the band. They have two capable lead singers, but Dany is the lead singer for the rock n roll material. Pau is best for the emotional material like Breathe, Revenant, the solo version of Creep, and 23 (the third verse of 23 in the Teatro Metropolitan concert is expressed so…[Read more]

Jeebus, they just dropped Breathe, a song that Lava Records wanted on their last album but Pau told them ok, only as long as she’s not required to sing it live. In the Pepsi concert, she said she might play Breathe live, but only after she sees how the audience reacts to Black Holes. Breathe is the song track that has been played during concert…[Read more]
