Most European cities have exceptionally good, clean, cheap and frequent public transportation (there are obvious exceptions I know). I do not miss the very high cost, frequent maintenance, grief or stress of driving. It would be a nightmare having a car in the city centre anyways. I can very easily used a shared car the rare times I ever need one.

That’s a total bummer unseen. I hope you have your mobile handy with you!
I guess Simon, you won’t bang on a moving bus ever again! I would imagine the bus company didn’t give a toss about your complaint?

That’s a bummer Unseen. I guess you’ll have to pee sitting down for a while. My fingers are double crossed that your knees will be back to normal soon.
Simon, I think busses almost always win š

Iām so sorry Davis. Reg helped me a lot when my mum died, by getting me to go around her friends and learn new stories about her.
I have to say, some four years later, that a few of those stories still crack me up – in particular the one where she was in the back seat of my brother and wifeās car as they drove in France and got stopped for spe…[Read more]

My mother passed away today. I am extremely fortunate to have two parents who are deeply loving, caring, doting and supportive. I’m sure you know, as getting older, if you had parent(s) who had even one of the above qualities…you were an extremely lucky person.
Some of their values pass on to you, and in other ways, they directly and indirectly…[Read more]

Marginalised people make the qualities that lead to their marginalisation such a great part of their identity, because it is thrust upon them.
If I didn’t hear phrases like “don’t be such a fag” on a regular basis, didn’t have such strong reactions when I frequently have to say to people I meet “…my boyfriend did this” or even “actually I have…[Read more]

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 4 months agomorality is fiendishly intricate and interesting.Ā Thatās why so many people spend their time puzzling over it.
And that is the absolute perfectly evasive Chopra like response. Unseen is right…at some point, time to give it a rest. Should have days ago. And………scene.

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoYes Simon, clearly I am just stubborn in my old ways. I am just afraid of your revolutionary, internally consistent, clear and intelligible system that will smash the same ole shit and harbour in a completely new way of doing things. I am simply just afraid of such Earth shattering ideas such as:
- Morality isnāt one thing and canāt be sliced up…

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months ago@davis ā so the answer is ājust becauseā.Ā Iāve identified a weakness that you yourself have agreed with.Ā Iām sure a moral philosophy professor would not be so dogmatic.
Jesus bloody donkey crackers. What happened to you Simon? Where did you go wrong?

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoSimon…do you want me to write to every philosopher, political scientist, dictionary, encyclopedia, intellectual and publishing house and try to get them to change the definition and character of “utilitariansim” and “deontological moral systems”? Because if you do…you will have to give me a good reason to other than the fact that some guy, who…[Read more]

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoĀ If it is insisted that two complementary systems are mutually exclusive ā this is just silly and pointless dogmatism.
And there I thought you were actually capable of conceding anything. My terrible mistake.

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoIf there were two sets of circumstances, with everything the same, and something needed fixing
I guess this is as close as you are capable to conceding something. There are advantages and disadvantages to all moral systems. None of them are inherently correct. None of them possibly could be as morality isn’t written into the fabric of the…[Read more]

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoItās pretty boring to be more into defending -isms than doing real philosophy.
I’m not defending anything Simon, I’m calling out your ignorant claim that “the two could be mixed” or whatever. These systems were established generations before we were born. I am not in charge of them nor would me hoping they would change have any effect. Own up to y…[Read more]

The Atheist Agora 4 years, 5 months agoItās not up for debate, that your theories might have something wrong about them?
What deontological ethics are and what utilitarian ethics are…are not my own personal theories. They are well established and their approaches to moral problems cannot be combined any more than oil and water can. If you weren’t so monumentally intellectually lazy a…[Read more]

Simon, educate yourself a little. I am not arguing with someone that the sky is not blue but green. Pick up some books and read.
