I thought that an analogy would help. Imagine if it was somehow discovered that if we scrape part of our tastebuds off, we will be a little less likely to get brain cancer (already a pretty low risk), will avoid tongue infections (pretty uncommon), will have 10% less likelihood of having the tonsils removed (few people suffer this anyways) and is…[Read more]

Yes, Belen, I agree with @davis so totally on this subject. I cannot for the life of me understand how people do this. Religions have brainwashed people into thinking this is a normal thing. It is not normal. It is grotesque. The hygiene thing is a myth. The only way that the concept of hygiene could apply is if a dick-owner completely fails t…[Read more]

Sunday School 8 years, 1 month ago@jadeblackolive I just overheard my stepdaughter commenting on the phone with my wife, on discovering SSI offices are closed today, “Fuck this god day” and this makes me smile 😊

Its no surprise that its almost only American doctors talking about the very questionable efficacy of circumcision as they are also more likely to perform they mostly pointless excision. The UTI benefits are tenuous at best, AIDS protection is about avoiding infection with unprotected sex un places of highinfection rate and none of them take into…[Read more]

Article from the NYT:https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/06/02/world/europe/denmark-circumcision.html
While female genital mutilation is almost unanimously condemned in western democracies as well as being illegal, a moderate form of male genital mutilation is still permitted everywhere. First, female genital mutilation has four levels of severity…[Read more]

That’s a great write-up, @unseen. It’s exhausting just trying to keep up with the daily insanity. It feels like America has come to a fork in the road and that it will be decided this year. If trump is making a total power grab, he will likely need to do that before the November mid-terms, when the likelihood is that democrats will take the Hous…[Read more]

It’s not just the millennials, you’re right. In the UK, many people have an hours commute to work. When the Blackberry first penetrated the business market, the ‘addiction’ was positive for me, as a business owner with clients in different countries. Not only would my staff work a 7 hour day (I was emphatic that they only worked 7 hours in the o…[Read more]

Americans do have restrictions on what they can say in public. The usual example given is they can’t yell, “FIRE” in a crowded movie theater. The difference in the UK is based on what constitutes inflammatory output. The sad thing is that the original protection of ‘free speech’ in the USA was directed at enabling the people to speak out agai…[Read more]

On reflection, I think it’s kind of disgusting that the term “casting couch” even exists, and not only that, but that everyone knew what it meant. It was perceived as acceptable. Yes times have changed, and for the good. I’m sorry that Morgan Freeman was outed for this kind of bad behavior. I used to like him in films. But in the end, I don’t t…[Read more]

Kids aren’t taught to lose, any more. Everyone wins. Competitions do not have losers. Everyone gets a medal. This sort of philosophy denies the kids the lessons they need in life, where failure exists and coping with a failure defines your ability to exist in society.

@unseen I find it slightly amusing that you think women broadly are discussing men who go their own way. I have a reasonable presence on social media, and I’d never come across the abbreviation MGTOW, nor any women who feel they can’t find a man because of a group tendency called this.
Oddly, I have come across the term ‘incels’ a fair bit. Thi…[Read more]

Sunday School 8 years, 1 month ago@danielw The Shadow of the Wind is a wonderful book. It stands on its own, but there are two more books in that series and they make a very satisfactory tale.
