Ivy nobody here wants to hear dogshit answers like
You sound SO elitist when you say that
here. That’s a barf of a response, absent of an argument, it makes no sense and even if it did it’s still irrelevant. Would you give Jake the respect of responding to his actual argument instead of applying a label to him with the goal of disrupting actual debate?

I think Nicolas Taleb put it really well in his book The Black Swan (outstanding read if you have the time). Throw a pool ball at two others and you can likely work out where they will go. Throw it into a pool table with 15 already moving balls and you need to account for the current wobble of a star 1000 light years away in order to properly work…[Read more]

To Do or not To Do 6 years, 6 months agoI prefer the alien scenario. I honestly think humanity has absolutely no hope until we either fix our genetic code or some aliens do it for us (they are far less likely to screw up when they attempt to do so).

To Do or not To Do 6 years, 6 months agoEhhhhh. We can avoid the Earth setting on fire if we act now. Humans are too ridiculously selfish to bother. And the American government and half of Americans have always been ridiculous deniers of climate change. No…people won’t make those sacrafices and most importantly businesses wont make enough concessions (thats the serious problem) and…[Read more]

To Do or not To Do 6 years, 6 months agoWell…at least you answered the question lol
Sounds like the perfect solution. Shall we just freeze 100 humans and wait for aliens to come visit, revive us and fix all our problems?

To Do or not To Do 6 years, 6 months agoI personally would be extremely resistant to option 1 and willing to do option 2 (and I have no plans to have kids and HATE the heat and cold and love long showers and long cooked meals.

To Do or not To Do 6 years, 6 months agoWe all know we are heading to climate doom and that there is no way countries (especially the US) will do whats necessary to stop it. It’s likely to be very very very bad even with notable changes (which won’t happen until there are problems that really disrupt people’s lives right in their faces). So I thought I’d ask everyone a set of questions.…[Read more]

scientifically that such strong social connections in fact enhance survival in some species
And of course the opposite. Sexual harassment and abuse, an extremely toxic and malicious by-product of human sexual behavior, no doubt does mostly the opposite. May pass on genes but for most cases in human history, in a less than ideal or beneficial way…[Read more]

It seems obvious that there is an evolutionary bias toward sexual relations that can pass along genes, anything else is frivolous in a sense
Humans evolved to be sexual WELL outside of their fertile zones. So yeah, you could call it “frivolous” in that sense but it has numerous other benefits than simple procreation. Passing on the genes isn’t…[Read more]

Jake has responded best. A lot more investigation has to be done. While I have no doubt more people would be more open to different sexual experiences if it weren’t for cultural conditioning (most especially the horror of the Abrahamic religions that still haunts the world quite viciously in many places). Alcohol and prison does change things but…[Read more]

We’re slowly reaching the point of no return and yet there are still major players in the world who won’t make what are actually, pretty modest changes, to ensure their great grandchildren won’t have an Earth set on fire. That’s all you have to know.
There are multiple countries who have enough nuclear bombs to make the Earth completely…[Read more]

We don’t remotely know enough to make any theories that aren’t just fanciful speculation.
Are we in a universe that is nothing but overlapping existences representing the infinite possible results of a vortex of probabilities that can only collapse if a conscious being observes or tests it? Maybe. I guess that means nothing was collapsed nor…[Read more]

by the way my signed Bill Bryson book arrived yesterday and I’m nose deep. Some extraordinary nuggets.
Apparently our eyebrows play a large part in signaling our moods, and a big reason the Mona Lisa smile is considered enigmatic is that she literally has no eyebrows. I had never noticed that but now of course it’s obvious!

My post seems to have been edited. Not sure why. I don’t consider cocaine a drug that naturally leads to disaster (though it could for some people). But I had instead said “crocodile” which is a drug that doesn’t just lead to disaster…but one where you are already in a clusterfuck of disaster if you start taking it. Even an oppresive country…[Read more]
