@davis – I don’t get what you mean.
@earlesanborn – “Most, not all, over the past 180 plus years wanted to believe in evolution otherwise they had no logical reason to not believe in the Eternal God who created all things visible and invisible.”
– I don’t think the two have to be mutually incompatible. I would have thought, if you don’t engage…[Read more]

@davis – please forgive Earle, he’s not trolling or proselytizing, he’s just making points, but on this forum, it’s not how we do things.
@earlesanborn – it’s best if you can just summarise the points you want to make, succinctly, in your own words. It is much more interesting for other people to read like that as well. There is no need for m…[Read more]

Well done to @davis for bringing some sense to the wonderful world of nonsense.

@davis – most rodents are small vulnerable prey animals, so it would be appropriate for them to feel stressed a lot of the time. But this niche is particulary specialised, so I am not sure how well that model applies to other animals, apart from in degrees of positive or negative emotions felt.

@Davis: So Pi is significant only to humans and wouldn’t be noted and/or used by intelligent aliens(?).
That doesn’t pass the snicker test.

Sunday School 8 years, 1 month ago@Davis, I wasn’t speaking of the majority of countries, but the majority of Muslims. As for most of the countries you list, I’m laying blame on their authoritarian governments for how they’ve historically and presently religiously oppress their populations.
But I was still wrong to say majority. You made me look! I don’t know how I got it so…[Read more]

@davis thanks for bothering to take the time to post such a well structured response. +1
@earlesanborn welcome to Atheist Zone, where theists like yourself are given space and room to make goddish claims without getting booted. Out of curiosity, what inspired you to join an atheist site?

@Davis and ALL who have answered my post. Thank you for your concern and perceptive viewpoints. I will NOT advocate for change. I will not be co-opted into the joke of building a kinder, gentler Ebola. If I could burn the whole rotten system down (metaphorically speaking) and replace it with something clean, I would. Since I cannot, I…[Read more]

@davis said….And Jesus was not the last person to tell a metaphor about the topic. The film “The power of one” or the book “The alchemist” or the Harry Potter franchise….
It’s funny you said that because I finally actually watched some Harry Potter films last weekend (a bit late , I know) and all I kept thinking about was similar Bible stories…[Read more]

@davis – we would hope that the more people spread the word of “the Perennial Philosophy” the better. So, if it turns up all over the place, that is good.

@davis – I’ve done all that, and I’ve read “The Philosophical Life” by James Miller, which consists of biographies of famous philosophers, and I have a copy of the Oxford Companion to Philosophy which I have made use of. My contents list includes most subject areas within morality, including cooperation, reciprocity, The Golden Rule, etc. – the…[Read more]

@davis – “the moment you mention “wisdom through the ages” I am extremely skeptical. Folk wisdom and advice is usually not philosophy”
– if philosophy is defined as “knowledge about life” then it can qualify. Three that I’ve used are “two wrongs don’t make a right”, “smile now, cry later” and “no good comes of no good”.
“Morality depending on a…[Read more]

Yes, Belen, I agree with @davis so totally on this subject. I cannot for the life of me understand how people do this. Religions have brainwashed people into thinking this is a normal thing. It is not normal. It is grotesque. The hygiene thing is a myth. The only way that the concept of hygiene could apply is if a dick-owner completely fails t…[Read more]
