Simon,
Have you ever heard of ‘Crime of Passion’ laws?
In France in the 19th century a killing done in a jealous instant rage, for example, like catching your lover in bed with another and killing them, was actually a valid defence and you’d get off altogether.
Ahh the good old 19th Century, when jealous men were entitled to kill their betra…[Read more]

‘Disowned’ sounds a lot better than stoned to death or another sort of ‘honour kill’. And I imagine if you choose not to have an arranged marriage which is a core expectation in your family, it’d be you rejecting them.

Sikhism is not evangelical. It’s the opposite. They give whatever you need and don’t ask your religion. If you want to know about their religion, you can ask, and a teacher will be found. It is not exclusive – all are welcome to believe in the Sikh way. They’re one god, reincarnation believers.

If I was going to choose a religion, I’d pick the Sikhs.
These guys live by the standards their religion proclaims. They feed the hungry and clothe the needy of any or no religion. They have enclaves where food is given to everyone, no questions asked.
They literally live their lives the way their religion tells them to. They’ll give shelter to…[Read more]

PopeBeanie replied to the topic Spirituality without Religion in the forum
Atheism and Spirituality 3 years, 4 months agoI don’t see anything wrong with going with the flow of those feelings. Feelings of one’s connectivity to the world are in themselves essential motivations to keep making and celebrating new connections.
Do you ever get goosebumps from music? Sometimes I do, and it proves to me that something deep within me is stirred. Although I’ve rarely ever…[Read more]

I’m most certainly not a scriptural expert, and I’ve no inclination to become one. I think that interpretations of any kind of scripture have been given credibility based on whoever happens to have the power to bestow authority to those interpreters or to theirself. So, I don’t feel too short on wisdom by being ignorant of this kind of history.…[Read more]

I’ve objected to the misuse of the word hallucination enough to just ignore writings that center around it, unless it’s about imagining something that’s actually not there. Even though “red” is a human construct, it has meaning when communicating to other humans, and it seems meaningless to argue that “red” is not there. As Autumn said, a…[Read more]

I’ve mentioned a possible answer before, but in this case there’s a chance we’ll get to study this thing if it’s found. I’m not jumping to any final conclusion, in spite of masses of people who tend to do that.

Trivia: In a typical online video session, you’re not seeing the same image of yourself that others are seeing. That’s because you’re shown your mirror image, the kind of image you’re more familiar with, and you would likely feel disoriented if shown your own image from the natural point of view of other people.
At your next video meeting, hold…[Read more]

My bigger-picture Occam’s razor is that if Putin isn’t stopped or at least discouraged by what it costs him, he will continue to keep his people in the dark while throwing tens of thousands of them at Ukraine as fodder. If USA blowing up the pipeline is a war crime, it still pales in comparison to Putin’s war crimes. If his nuclear threatening is…[Read more]
