I think “consciousness” as hard as it is to define is probably a byproduct of frontal lobe evolution/development that has nothing to do with survival.I think that’s not completely incorrect. Here’s a pretty good presentation from a PhD student, imo. She doesn’t go deep into religion, but it seems like a good start, and it’s relevant to our consciousness. (The audio’s a bit irritating at first, but improves later.)

–Perceptions–
Atm I can only cite my perceptions, and propose what may be other people’s.
I perceive that there is a conservative vs progressive divide wrt reliance on using hate as a motivator, practically by definition: Traditionalists judge anyone rocking their boat, at least wrt societal matters; Progressives preach tolerance of societal…[Read more]

Also wrt designing evolutionary processes, He also made sure that sex was a primary motive for competition, rapists, societal shamings, divinely inspired punishments… and nobody wants to talk about this but I’ll bet that Satan has a huuuuge penis to help him win some people over. I never really wanted to control my dreams, but preferred to try to understand or at least learn something from them, believing that they’re graphic representations of my subconscious communicating to my consciousness. Sometimes I’d get insights into feelings or issues that were previously eluding me while awake. I feel like I’m opening my mind to…[Read more]

Consciousness 6 years, 6 months agoThe most obvious maps in our heads are for getting from here to there and back, and we also have varying aptitudes for finding shortcuts. Body maps (for pain, range of movement e.g. for arms and legs, and so on) are fundamentally necessary for survival, for all animals. Similar mapping paradigms seem to also be repurposed for other uses, even for…[Read more]

From that article, a graphic of supposed CO2 and methane (relatively recent) history on Earth:
