Sunday School 8 years, 1 month ago@simonpaynton Are you describing religion as the dark side of the moon and atheism as the lit up side? As a mega Pink Floyd fan, the words appeal to me but I’m totally lost as to the metaphor you are trying to use.

Is it the actual eyeball that you see as evil? Or the whole eye? If it’s the whole eye, then I imagine their facial expressions alter and mutate with age and might reflect their overall comportment. I’ve seen intense eyes, focused eyes and cold eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen ‘evil’ eyes.

Honestly, Reg, your depictions across the years of your interactions with the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses have entertained me and probably many others :). Never stop!
Noel, I was tricked by an old mate on TA into a situation where the Mormons came to visit us. I opened the door in horror as the woman started her speech. I interrupted her to s…[Read more]

The ‘races’ of today? I was under the impression we were all one race, unless you mean the sub classifications of different peoples. These sub classifications are very minor.
There is no ‘gap’ in human development; we all gradually mutated. There’s no abrupt change in this development. We have to look back over 200,000 years of gradual dev…[Read more]

Ok, but you are asking how others make decisions. I’m trying to categorize what kind of decision you are asking about. There are yes/no decisions, which usually come down to ‘do I/don’t I’ questions. There are multiple choice type questions, such as those prefixed with ‘which’. There are other kinds too. What kind are you asking about?

Is it a yes/no decision, or a multiple choice? Are you trying to make a decision based on logic or a decision based on emotion?

What exactly are the sons of Adam?

I know. It can be a tad confusing to the religious to discover the equivalent Adam lived in a completely different time period 🙂

Fascinating article about mitochondrial eve. Basically there has to be an unbroken FEMALE line traced directly. So if somewhere along the line a woman only has sons, even if they go on to have daughters, the chain is considered broken.
However, mitochondrial eve must have had a mother!

I’m not sure what your point is, Michael. Are you saying there’s some evidence that humans were created by a super-being? Or are you simply showing that we have a lot of new information available to help us piece together the emergence of today’s human?

You, personally plan to buy an AR 15 or something similar because you are going to need its lethal scatterpower to stay safe? I just want to make sure I understand.

We should outlaw the ones that go ratatatat and not the ones that go pop pop. Seems easy to me 🙂

@unseen There seems to be a knee jerk reaction to regulating gun ownership in the USA – it’s quite strong here in Vermont. The question I have, is what is the constitutional position on “well regulated”? I have seen people quote “second amendment” rather abundantly recently, but not actually quote the valid sentence. I had imagined that “well r…[Read more]

Great post, Davis. One of these days when I’m over in Blighty I’ll nip over the channel and have a pint with you, wherever you’ve ended up.

Kids without fathers isn’t an American thing. The rest of the ‘developed’ world also has young boys growing up without fathers. And yet we don’t see schoolchildren being shot regularly (and in the US it IS regularly) in those countries. It belies the fatherless boy theory.
