I’ve had a few really incredible/awesome coincidences happen in my life that might influence some people into believing they were caused by supernatural influence. I’ll never forget them. But I’m still not ready to believe they had anything to do with what “believers” say is their go-to assumption. (Presumption, even.) Mere humans make up all…[Read more]

Sorry I haven’t commented until now, but I’ve been busy fornicating and spouting wisdom to men in a most sinful way.
Michael, my question to you is this. If you’ve found what you’re looking for, by way of what you define as evidence, why are you still looking?

The only truth wrt religion I’m certain of is that mortal human beings wrote all scriptures. The latest, supremely influential contribution to scriptures came from Muhammed (peanut butter upon him), riding on the coattails/wings of Gabriel (and other widespread mythology of the time) to achieve maximum credibility in his neck of the woods/desert…[Read more]

@michael17 Hey Michael, I’ve fixed several posts (and I think I have a few more to go) that start with a blockquote (which is highly appreciated), but you’re not closing the blockquote (by clicking on the ” quote button) before writing your response. I’m not making a big deal out of it, but appreciate your posts and just want them to be as…[Read more]

I learned from the video, mostly because we didn’t go that deep into European systems in polysci class. Thanks in advance for enduring it @Davis, and I hope you have time to offer more of your expertise on it. (Although I’m mostly interested now in how various economic systems will play out, as a probably never-ending set of experiments. And I…[Read more]

I liked the whole presentation, especially since I could watch most of it at 1.5x speed, and the rest at 1.25x.
I was disappointed that he wasn’t mentioning automation/end-of-work… until he did near the end. This will be an increasingly looming issue, which can be informed only by how we currently are or aren’t able to deal with unemployment…[Read more]

The “trolley problem” is a good article and worth reading. As Diderot suggested circa 1750, morality should be founded on sociology and not on theology. Here’s a pretty good presentation from a PhD student, imo. She doesn’t go deep into religion, but it seems like a good start, and it’s relevant to our consciousness. (The audio’s a bit irritating at first, but improves later.)

Atm I can only cite my perceptions, and propose what may be other people’s.
