NEWS NEWS NEWS!! Current Events and Favorite News Sources 3 years, 8 months agoYou can see that in the Institute for Nonprofit News’ most recent INN Index, which serves as an industry census of sorts. The total number of nonprofit news outlets increased nearly 70% between 2017 and 2021 — but the number of local nonprofits more than doubled. Five years ago, about 20% of nonprofits covered local news; now it’s 42% and rising…

My views on life after death beliefs, if I can put them in a nutshell:
Some other animals mourn their dead, as if they can’t believe they’re actually dead, and they keep searching for their lost companion. Most humans, too. There is a natural disbelief in the actual loss. I claim that this is also evidence of “spirituality”, but as I’ve mentioned…[Read more]

(I’m not asking agnostics or atheists.)
Anyone who authors any such claims are merely fallible human beings, right? E.g. Mohammed only said he spoke with the angel Gabriele. Come on, is it not arrogant, or just plain foolish to claim to know anything about God, based only on what human beings wrote, without first having a personal, face-to-face…[Read more]

PopeBeanie replied to the topic Some questions about sentient AI in the forum Small Talk 3 years, 8 months ago
Besides the fact that we humans have trouble with answering those questions sometimes even about other humans, and note that those questions and answers are still evolving and depend on current cultural perspectives, I choose to not ever assume that AI will have “personhood” equivalent to humanhood, or animalhood, for that matter. In fact, I…[Read more]

Trap Music
I’m not much “into” trap music except for its technically creative aspects, but it is a topic in music history after all. As an aside to this aside to atheistic topics, somehow relating atheistic themes in this thread will be in the back of my mind, at least. I pretty much agree with all of that, although BBC seems left leaning at times, but I feel mostly aware of the lean and appreciate their sincere attempts. Reddit is one where I might expect a range of leans or non-leans I could pick from, but I haven’t dug far enough into it yet.
