Funny, I didn’t think old duffers who are Smedley Butler wanna-bes at best or propagandists for hostile foreign powers at worst were a “protected class” or a “race.” If they are, you got me. I am, as the kids nowadays say, a “hater.” 😁
I took Jake’s comment as satire, but I may be missing your…[Read more]

Sunday School 3 years, 6 months agoYou’re thoughtful, Jake. I’m quite lucky in that I have ten acres abutting an unmanned wildlife park with maybe five of my acres being woodland.
Loads of trees have been felled and chopped to about two or three feet logs. My ambition for the spring is to get a small power saw, chop them up and haul them into the log rack. There are chunks of the…[Read more] -

Sunday School 3 years, 6 months agoThe answer is to exercise. It’s the question of how, and of choosing motivation smartly.
For me, yes Jake I don’t think revulsion is too strong a word to describe my relationship with exercise for its own sake. Whereas for me again, I recognise my delight at creating something I want. Not need, really. Want. And I don’t seem to care how much energ…[Read more] -

Sunday School 3 years, 6 months agoWe had a cord of wood delivered outside, and I have hand carried it up 13 steps, through the house and on to the deck to stack, over a period of two weeks. A cord of wood weighs between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds.
I love our log fire enough for that not to have felt even slightly inconvenient.I tried a 20 minute daily workout on a cross trainer…[Read more]

What is free will? How did consciousness evolve? What is it like to feel like a bat? Would you like to have a quantum computer to think with, why or why not?

Touting “medicines” without transparency and evidence is an age old snake oil approach.
For more detailed, specific research, I’d try google scholar, e.g. starting with something like this:
https://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2018&q=traditional+chinese+medicine&hl=en&as_sdt=0,5
I limited those search results to 2018 and later, just to…[Read more]

Enco, you often pack so many points and/or opinion into a post that it’s impossible to respond to all of them, so I’m forced to just reduce and prioritize, while just plain trying to ignore other points.

Sunday School 3 years, 7 months agoHi Encogitationer,
If a dying person refuses usage of his organs after death, the organs are not used. Therefore the corpse he is about to become, cannot be harvested. It had the right to remain intact when living, under general laws. Once it is dead, it has the right not to be harvested.
The right to not get pregnant is rather optimistic,…[Read more]

Sunday School 3 years, 7 months ago@simon – why do you think late term abortions are carried out? Do you think a woman gets to 7 or 8 months and then thinks “fuck it, I’ve changed my mind”? Late term abortions are carried out because the baby is deformed to the degree it cannot survive, or the mothers life is massively at risk, or the baby has died and needs to be removed…[Read more]
