Sunday School 2 years, 6 months agoMore about the poet here. Yes, that poem Gertrude resonates with me from the experiences of my own mother (who also had the same name has the poet) as I think it probably does with many of us.
Reading a poem when not expecting to has an impact. My friends mother is close to her death….as Hitchens said, there is no stage 5….and she visits m…[Read more]

I did a supervised IQ test in 1990 and did another one in 2020 with the same organization. I scored one extra point the second time but took about 10 minutes longer to complete it.

Sunday School 2 years, 6 months agoI wish that all the people
who peddle God
could watch my mother die:
could see the skin and
gristle weighing only
seventy-nine, every stubborn
pound of flesh a small
death.I wish the people who peddle God
could see her young,
lovely in gardens and
beautiful in kitchens, and could watch
the hand of God slowly
twisting her knees and fingers

@Robert – In my head I have Black Francis and Trent Reznor in the same space. Not all the time but I think their creativity and vocal techniques overlap. You don’t get them unless you spend the time listening closely to them. You also have to be a very good musician and understand more than just the rudiments of music to play music like that. It…[Read more]

Anyone think that Gretchen Whitmer might be a better prospect than Biden? I think abortion rights will be at the forefront of the campaign and she has already successfully run in Michigan on it. She may even get Republican female voters on her side. She would triumph in a debate with Spanky McLiarface.

Once the algorithms get you to the bottom of the rabbit hole you may find yourself in a Bespoke Reality. I am placing a bet tomorrow that the term will be a contender for the Word of the Year, 2024.

Atheist Cats 2 years, 6 months ago“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.”

Not the best way to sell that gay is normal….
Many gay men are not happy with these “queer” parades. As Douglas Murray writes in “The Madness of People” there are people who in calling for equality will always include a contingent who mistake exhibitionism for activism.
It is from this week’s Sunday School Book.

@Robert – When a friend of mine was in hospital for a minor procedure I went to visit him. I asked him “Will I slaughter a goat as an offering for you?” He replied “Could you offer up some carrots instead as I am off the fatty foods for a while”. “No problem, I will boil them in holy water”. That was over 15 years ago. He ran a 10K in 39 minutes…[Read more]

Last week I was speaking with a friend in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine but we quickly ended the call when the air raid sirens started. Later he told me that the Russians had damaged the houses of his neighbors (no one died this time). In their ongoing efforts to remove all ‘the Nazis’ from Ukraine, the Russians are using drones provided by the Isl…[Read more]

Sunday School 2 years, 7 months agoI remember the concert as an intense experience of sound and light. Sound mostly. It was a last minute thing. I lived in London at the time and got a ticket from some friends I bumped into that afternoon. I was never a big fan…I absolutely respected them as musicians – but they were not on my radar that much. I knew of them from the “Smoke o…[Read more]
