@Simon – I don’t understand why you would look to the Bible or Koran to create a new system of morality or code of ethical behavior. Once you do this you are lowering your standards.
From the Jesus reference above, the platitude to love your neighbor as yourself is ruined because you start it with “love god”. This implies (to my ears) that yo…[Read more]

As for your philosophy of life @Simon …the moment you mention “wisdom through the ages” I am extremely skeptical. Folk wisdom and advice is usually not philosophy. There is no DNA of morality. Morality is a human construct which relies less on human instinct and way more on the setting. Morality depending on a DNA molecule doesn’t make sense. Do…[Read more]

@Simon, I may have driven past you over the years as I often drove from Enfield, North London to Kempston in Bedford to visit people. I would go via M25 and A1 rather than M1. I agree, it is a good place to live.

This may be true in some cases where people inflict unnecessary suffering on others, but it isn’t always the case. In endless examples of a group of people stuck in a mass movement of cruel insanity…countless people take no pleasure from the horror they inflict on others, or this complicity when doing nothing. Reluctant Japanese citizens…[Read more]

Sunday School 8 years, 2 months ago@Simon – I post such articles so that it might help improve debating skills with theists. There are these self-anointed pastors and mock theologians that rehash the same arguments over and over again. Their delivery is the same pious and anti-intellectual rhetoric. It is all taken from some online theology 101 course. It is bad enough that they k…[Read more]

@Simon, it’s the people who are being manipulated for political purposes, not the terms.
I don’t know what your “but surely” clause means.

Says someone who has never suffered systematic verbal prejudice or systematic verbal attack on a daily basis because of skin colour or sexuality. Simon…it’s deplorable to consider all of this as simply provocation from both sides. When a Jewish person walks down the street and people shout “fuck off money grubbing Jew” there are no two…[Read more]

I’m no expert, and I don’t know exactly what a chart is supposed to tell us.
@Simon: Your “chart” is based only on your date and time of birth and location. That is all. If you were born in the next room while Hitler’s mother was also in labor, you would have the same exact chart as him. Analytical huh…you sure?

Ghosts don’t exist. Some people are very susceptible to suggestion, especially at times of heightened emotion like the loss of a loved one or because they engage in magical thinking rather than critical thinking.
@Simon – Yes, but it also depends on what you mean by “extraordinary” If I saw dead people floating around a room I would consider tha…[Read more]

C’mon, Simon; religion is important TO YOU.

Sunday School 8 years, 6 months agoI’m happy for you that you’ve found some kind of zen with the universe and you’ve worked out a “how to live” and “sense of morality” that works for you. That being said, I didn’t really understand anything in this post of yours. What is completely logical? What writes itself? What will people be fluent in? What is a deepful joy?

Sunday School 8 years, 7 months agoOk guys, I’m happy to disagree on this point. Regardless, the definition of pedophilia is an attraction to prepubescent children, and thus cannot reasonably be applied above the age of 12 (usually lower).
