PopeBeanie started the topic What happened to Atheist Nexus? in the forum Small Talk 5 years, 11 months ago
Was just going there for a random reason and see that it no longer exists per DNS system (i.e. just get a “404” error). Also, @atheistnexus on twitter no longer exists, and some other place I looked for them they’re gone. The domain name’s not expired at GoDaddy.
Very strange. Google doesn’t help except to show cached pages. Couldn’t find any…[Read more]

IMO humans invented a God that may or may not intervene in human affairs, but in any case a God whom is never to be held accountable for whatever He does. Kind of like the historical father of a family, or leader of men… in a world of flaws and evils of Man. (Well ok, some evil women too, but that’s secondary.)
Albeit in reality, we exist in a…[Read more]

Somebody commented to me that they thought instead of removing the confederate statues, the US should teach history in schools. (Because that really gets emotions going).
I had to reply that the toppling of these statues IS teaching history in a way that schools never did, inasmuch as we are all becoming aware of the historical reasons these…[Read more]

But this one has freckles. I don’t think modern cows have freckles, except when they’re young, or Irish.

(People here know most of the following, big-picture summary with a dose of speculation.)
Fossil history is about finding bits and pieces, amounting to a very small sample of the complete history. The probability of locating and discovering any species depends on its population over time, geographical spaces, conditions of preservation, and other…[Read more]

Consciousness 6 years agoAI is usually, in itself, a side-issue to a discussion of consciousness, yet people love to speculate on the inevitability of consciousness in AI. This, before we can even define our own consciousness. I personally feel that purposefully building any “consciousness” into AI could be considered as unethical as it would be to experiment with any huma…[Read more]

Sunday School 6 years agoHey yes, Reg – Vermont is a good place to be. Our local police brought bottles of water and a bloody ice cream van to protests yesterday and gave everything away free.
They’ve been busy during Corona by doing special police birthday visits to local kids with quarantine birthdays.
The local sheriff’ plays “Dude, where’s my cruiser?” on Faceboo…[Read more]
