Ehhh…the BBC may only seem left leaning by American standards. It is famously “neutral” and in fact, whenever there is a conservative government they tend to be tepid about criticism of that government, and often do “both sides-sim” where they seem to cover both sides as though they are equally valid even when the conservative policy is…[Read more]

I pretty much agree with all of that, although BBC seems left leaning at times, but I feel mostly aware of the lean and appreciate their sincere attempts. Reddit is one where I might expect a range of leans or non-leans I could pick from, but I haven’t dug far enough into it yet.

PopeBeanie replied to the topic Atheist seeking spirituality? in the forum
Atheism and Spirituality 3 years, 8 months agoRevisiting this topic helped clarify in my mind how I wish to keep using terms like spiritual, sacred, and perhaps other words previously invented and/or owned by writers of religious or metaphysical texts. Some usages of the word sacred, for example, are of secular context.
For as long as I can remember I always felt that spirituality refers to…[Read more]

IMO this is a severely underappreciated topic. I made a public recommendation of your topic here, a couple of weeks ago, but got no bites.
I was just going to “bump” this topic, but I might as well plug my own takes on it at the same time, by also pointing readers/contributors to a group I started long ago, short name “news about the news“. More…[Read more]

Sunday School 3 years, 8 months agoEnco, you seem to easily get triggered by people who are easily triggered. Why don’t you try to not get so easily triggered by these things and recognise there will always be a minority of people who misuse and abuse shit, just as there are libertarians who go ape-shit over things like highly reasonable parking tickets and declare such tickets a…[Read more]

The Russian president against the worldFrom The Atlantic, by Tom Nichols. Excerpts:
[…] During a meandering rant, Putin defended raw Russian imperialism while he spooled off about a number of topics, including the fall of the U.S.S.R., the power of Western hegemony, and the American use of nuclear weapons on Japan. But his…

Hey readers, I have an itch recently to post a lot of recent news and opinion here (on Putin’s aggressive and inhumane moves, even against his own people), but before you continue here, could you please take a look at Unseen’s post that imo isn’t getting the attention it deserves?

Alright, Michael, now I understand – prophecy is a sort of evidence to help people feel their faith is well placed.
How does this prophecy lead specifically to the abrahamic god? Why could this prophecy not be pointing at a different root cause, or god, or even a group of gods?
If we accept that prophecy is real and is a ‘magic’ phenomenon (for…[Read more]

Michael, in your belief system, what purpose does the prophecy serve? Please try to answer me without ‘beasts’ and ‘horns’, etc. I’m not asking about the content or delivery mechanism of these prophecies, just their purpose
