Spain is an extremely peaceful country, one of the safest in Europe and in general, a kind, inclusive society with broad support for universal social care and welfare. This is a catastrophic failure by the National Government and stupidity from the Catalonian tactics. I have nothing else to say about this…the images speak for themselves.

No two loves are the same. Each loving relationship is a concoction of two separate people’s chemicals and how they interact. I don’t think you can classify an objective depiction of love. The most common denominators are how the love can make a person feel (mostly extreme emotions).

@bellerose Whether it was scripted or not, and whether it was personalized or not, the man has at the least, set up a system to enable thoughtful reassurances to be available whenever someone contacts him. I think it is very honorable. I’m glad it made your day 🙂

I’m not sure why you’re trying to pass judgement on these things as “good or bad.
Because not all traits we have that came from evolution are beneficial or good. And we have evolved some features for no good reason. And some of the features we have evolved were useful in the past but now they are not. And some featu…[Read more]

RE: We are asking for ANYTHING that can be scrutinized.
There is plenty to to be scrutinized. We are BETTER OFF mentally with some sort of belief http://www.apa.org/monitor/2010/12/believe.aspx Or is the APA wrong? Why would we evolve to believe in a God if there wasn’t one?
That is NOT EVIDENCE! Being happy or not has n…[Read more]

@davis We have evolved to believe in Gods. Why? Can you answer why?I have already answered your question here twice (just like with your “what evidence would you need for God”) and other users here have answered this question at length to no avail. It is infuriating retyping the same thought-out explanation again and again.…[Read more]

@robert Property tax is around $10k for a place valued circa $375k. However, the towns in Vermont discount that based on income (not, apparently, on savings in the Bank) and if you’re retired, you’ll likely get an 80% discount – reducing it to around $2,000 annually. They expect you to pay quarterly, so it’s not as concerning as it initially sound…[Read more]

It all seems horribly inevitable and the state of the planet that we are leaving to future generations has never looked so shaky. It’s hard to muster optimism at this stage. The human habitat is endangered, although the planet itself will most likely recover after we are all gone.

This is at the bottom of the article:-
“Editor’s note: The publish date on this story was originally incorrectly stated as Jan. 20, 2014, due to a technical glitch. In fact, it was published on Sept. 27, 2017, after the embargo on the paper was lifted.”
I now want to know why there was an embargo on the paper. And why. And for three years? Wow!

We had a King Harold in 1066 who was portrayed in the Bayoux tapestries as having been shot by an arrow through the eye. Not a very auspicious name (although it had me in stitches)…

“Our father who art in heaven, Harold be thy name.” It’s his bloody name, isn’t it?

Wow. Only 500 million years. Time for the planet to cool down and spark up life! Also…autotrophic. I had never heard of chemoautotrophs before, creating their own energy without light!

The correct response to hitting oneself on the thumb with a hammer, is to glare at the nearest person and yell, “See what you made me do!”.
