PopeBeanie started the topic Misc stories in the forum
NEWS NEWS NEWS!! Current Events and Favorite News Sources 3 years, 11 months agoEnco, I moved your stories to this new topic, because I don’t have admin rights move them to a more appropriate group or forum. I also edited the title and description of this group, to hopefully make more clear the purpose I have in mind for it.

Yeah…I’m not touching the definition of life (or even death) with a 10 meter poll.

I’ve mentioned before, years ago even, “beginning of life” definitions and “end of life” definitions are related in ways.
There’s not as much end of life controversy over definitions, although many here will remember opportunistic politicians jumping into the fray over Terry Shiavo falling into a coma in 1990 in Florida, which she never came out…[Read more]

Sunday School 3 years, 11 months agoReg, I knew that you might do the same, and was thinking this topic deserves major coverage on more than one front. Adding a link back to here from the Astronomy group now, which was already on my mind.
How exciting!

Enco one can make a critique about something without unnecessarily being a douche in the process. I cannot fathom the value of making light of suicide within the context of geo-political discussion.
As for your conflation of “hurting someone’s fragile feelings” with things like harassment or spreading vile trash that makes the lives of…[Read more]

Reg, you’re awesomely up on US politics. I had to look up Nunez! While I lived in Florida for about ten years, and my brother owns property and lives near Gainesville. (I can never go back to that level of humidity. The most dehydrated I’ve ever gotten was while sweating a bucketful there, barely cooling off.)

Here’s Jon Stewart’s positive take on the hearings, broadcast on June 29th. Maybe we won’t get taken down to the lowest depths of Hell, but some level above it.
I start it at about 27-1/4 minutes in so there’s only about 17 minutes left but it has meat. (Before the point where it starts, I learned that Merrick Garland is Judy Garland’s son, and…[Read more]

Jake, everything you’re saying makes perfect sense, and I’d love it if our future could go that way.
This Trump era’s changed my expectations of what’s possible. I’ve seen how political arrogance and thirst for power have prodded a populist hate movement that can take over. What’s still gaining ground now is a political thirst for power, so…[Read more]

My first impression after looking a bit into the coach and the Maine cases is that the SCOTUS rulings weren’t as broad as I first feared.
As mentioned here above, already, what might matter more is how future cases similar to the coach case are ruled. I would expect to see more cases, or even more extreme cases, where religious practices at…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years agoI see a fair amount of repudiation of post-life life as I surf, although I must admit the digestive tract analogy was refreshingly new to me.
I also have a favourite response to the question.

Me: “Either we are totally extinguished, OR we all go to heaven because God is loving and forgiving so obvio…[Read more]
