@Ivy, as we all know the only way to catch Covid is by the natural way, via close contact transmission. The thing is that he would be very unlikely to catch it from you even if you work with those who are positive. Much more likely to catch it in the community (the Delta variant). And he still wants to visit his unvaccinated father after the…[Read more]

Here’s a question for you: We’ve been killing 20 Afghan civilians for every American killed. I wonder how many out of each 20 was a woman or a girl?

@Ivy – Why is that considered woo?
These types of diets come from the fetid halls of Quackademia. There is no science behind them. It would seem they are created to get people to buy supplements. They make extravagant claims and offer no validated evidence to support those claims. Many of them are dangerous to your health.
@Simon – We evolved t…[Read more]

@Ivy – Except instead of causing a war with Kim Jong-un, he got into bed with him...
But Kimmie wrote Donnie some beautiful letters and Donnie fell in love with him. At least that is what he admitted happened. Maybe Kimmie told him what a bigly boy he was over a cup of covfefe? Anyways, it was all so tweet.

@ Jakelafort. I hope you are recovering and feeling better. Whenever Donald Trump’s speaks about cures for COVID-19, as if he holds any scientific or medical authority, I always think he is the epitome of the word “ultracrepidarian“.
@Ivy – thanks. COVID cases will surge within the Education system. That includes here in Ireland. In Georgia the…[Read more]

I remember when @Ivy forecast Trump to win long before anyone else. I entertained voting for him for a few days because I thought the left was becoming ‘troppo molto’ anti free-expression. I didn’t watch his TV shows but when I investigated him I thought no way is this fool going to get himself elected. Unfortunately there was a smart guy named…[Read more]

@Ivy Climate change has absolutely nothing to do with COVID-19.
Indirectly it has insofar as pollution has been reduced worldwide over the last 2 months. I went for a run at 10:30 a few nights ago. The streets were silent. No cars, buses, taxis even. The air was warm and easy to breathe. Then I noticed it…..several other runners out for…[Read more]

@ivy, I do understand your point that bad people will always do bad things in whatever circumstances. But I think that your analogy of alcohol is accurate: religion can sometimes have its own special way of bringing out the worst in people – just like football matches can produce violence in the crowds, for example.

@Ivy There is no objective reason to accept the statement that “God is real”
Ivy your reply is not in disagreement with my above statement. And I agree with you. I also do not think anything can prove the existence of any god. I have never suggested that. There is no evidence to suggest there are any. I keep saying that it is an entirely sub…[Read more]

But @Ivy maintains that doubt and faith go together. I agree that the others are mutually exclusive.
I think I can see her point: we all need to use our brains when deciding what to believe in. People differ in the conclusions they come to.
There was a very interesting article in last week’s Sunday School about evolutionary psychology, which t…[Read more]

What do you mean by “faith”, @Ivy?
I can see that Christians spend a lot of time agonising over details of this and that to do with theology, and that’s thinking.

@Ivy, so can you give me an example of a “spiritual experience” that is not capable of being called a natural human experience? Or is it duality of the mind and body that you think is real?

@ivy – you might be interested in this book by Steve Taylor, about his theory that the universe is pervaded by consciousness (which I don’t believe in, although I subscribe to most of the other stuff he says). https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41118456-spiritual-science

@Ivy I’m not the one making the claims. It is you who are claiming you can prove the existence of god. It is not up to me to disprove your claim. The burden of proof belongs to the person making the claim .
I’d be truly thrilled to be able to believe in a god.

@Ivy, re “I think we had [a democracy]. But not since 2016.
A few people making laws (w/ or w/o many breaking laws) has always been oligarchy.
Further, with SCOTUS saying money is speech, the USA is a plutocratic oligarchy.
Cheers.

Apologies, I didn’t mean to mislead. What I mean is my position is based on the LACK of objective proof.
I suspect we may actually agree. I accept that because of the apparent impossibility of objective proof, all that is left is subjective experience . That of course IS evidence, but not proof. OK?
