@TheEncogitationer: This may be the video? I have seen another similar one somewhere too. Are we not all “out of Africa” anyway…where it all began?

In laying out all the things a pleasure robot could do, consider that robots could replace us just about everywhere save, perhaps, in the arts. But I’m not sure that a hyperintelligent AI would have much use for the arts. What is Bleak House, Macbeth, Blade Runner, or a Gauguin painting to an AI?

Caravaggio was a murderer, Socrates hated democracy, and Mel Gibson is a big schmuck, but they are/were all geniuses (if you doubt Gibson, you probably haven’t seen or truly appreciated Apocalypto).
I get your dislike for Musk, who isn’t alone in giving his kids bizarre names (Moon Unit 2 and Dweezil Zappa?), but thanks for…[Read more]

@TheEncogitationer. Thanks for the links.
I think many of these laws are restrictive of personal freedom and the pursuit of happiness. What one does, either alone or with other consenting adults, in the privacy of their own “castle” should be no-ones concern.
But conservative Christians can’t bear to think that what they consider to be “vices”…[Read more]

@theencogitationer – of this decades-or-even-centuries-long horror!
That is what I say. It has been going on for centuries. It would be naive or even plain stupid to think otherwise. That is why it is taking so long for the Vatican to get the problem sorted. The entire Catholic Church should be proscribed and outlawed. Why do people still allow…[Read more]

@TheEncogitationer: Rich people from all over the world come to the United States for world class treatments at places like The Mayo Clinic and The Cleveland Clinic. Treatments administered by some of the world’s best doctors in a capitalist system are naturally quite expensive.
We may have “the best health care system in the world,” but it’s a…[Read more]

The US health care system is run for greed and profit. The NHS is run for people. @theencogitationer, I think you’re imagining health care from the godawful US perspective.

@TheEncogitationer Perhaps you should watch the movie, but I think that the foreigners were making demands that weren’t very helpful to a government that was stretched way beyond its capabilities already. Perhaps if they’d volunteered their services help the Thais identify everyone, recovering the ones they were seeking in due course rather than…[Read more]

@TheEncogitationer – “Froggy Went A’ Courtin’” or “Hot Monkey Love?”
When they were young I trained them to blaspheme a different god each day. Recently I have heard the herd praying to some monkey god and all the little baby Jesuses. The chorus of their latest song is about prophesy and while I can’t quite fully make out the lyrics, it sounds li…[Read more]

Thanks for the kind words
“Meaning is derived through involvement”
This quote resonates with me.
I agree with you on being a happy warrior and alleviate as much suffering as I can, I hope to someday be a beacon of reason. Religion has screwed up my home country. But first I have to take care of myself.

I am a site mode. Thanks for asking first. I don’t suspect there will be a problem but rather than uploading all in one would you mind posting a small sample first. Then I can create a new pagepost for them all where they can be put under separate topics names.

@theencogitationer – what are your particular interests? All I care about is atheist morality. I’m writing a book about it: an alternative formulation of morality for ordinary people, outside of the religions and traditional moral philosophy, based on evolutionary psychology and anthropology. I also enjoy philosophy in general.
