@PopeBeanie – Yes, that is a good appraisal from Jon Stewart. The GOP no longer need Trump. DeSantis is “Terminator 2” and Trump supporters don’t have to sacrifice any of their views or opinions to move over to DeSantis who is well educated and smart. I wonder if Jeanette Nunez will be shopping for a new red dress any time soon?

I am doing a good enough job at derailing it myself. Your line of thought is admirable and elevates the post. Keep it coming!

I agree. Fortunately hoaxes can be called out with todays investigative technologies, whereas in the 80s this was not so, however I don’t no the history of this particular video.

@PopeBeanie: Thanks for correcting me on Prof. Diamond’s first name.
The problem with bats, I gather, is their vast numbers and the fact that they are social and live in huge colonies facilitating the propagation of disease. I think I read somewhere that in terms of biomass, bats are at the top of the list. Despite the fact that most bats are…[Read more]

“It’s accepted wisdom that the fewer the people who vote, the better GOP does in elections.”
Certainly that seems the intuitive position. I can’t remember seeing any data to support that claim, but it could be true I guess.
Anyway, it’s been entertaining trying to predict what Donald will do next.

You would be shocked. There are a lot of people who still support him, or a lot of people who may not exactly support in but who are still either not going to vote at all or going to vote for him because they will not vote for Biden. Don’t let the polls fool you. It’s the electoral college that matters in those areas he’s still winni…[Read more]

@popebeanie, do you remember what it’s called when a function that evolved for one purpose, ends up getting used for another? You had a word for it, ex- something.

@PopeBeanie – Re the side note about the infinite database. If infinite it would be impossible to do a nightly backup. Even if it was finite you would need a lot of “space” to store it. Maybe last Friday’s was restored 10 times and nobody noticed it was a Groundhog day.

Consciousness, as we humans know it, is a precursor to this kind of discussion. Even as pre-consciousness is a necessary pre-requisites to consciousness, it so happens that any changes to behaviors or attitudes we intentionally try to accomplish, e.g. to execute a plan, write on this topic, or otherwise adjust our behavior to dynamic…
